Denzel Washington Shares That Despite The Comparisons, He Has No Clue Who Damson Idris Is

No matter how famous you become, there will always be someone who doesn’t know who you are! 

British actor Damson Idris, 30, has been in the entertainment industry for years, however, he didn’t land his breakout role as Franklin Saint until 2017 when the FX crime drama ‘Snowfall’ premiered. Since the release of the hit series many people have applauded Damson Idris on his acting abilities and have even compared him to well-known actor Denzel Washington, 66.

Despite Damson Idris seemingly being a household name now, Denzel Washington recently revealed in an interview with Two Bees Tv that he has no idea who he is. When asked if he thinks Idris is one of the leaders of the new black renaissance of TV and film Denzel Washington replied,

“Who [are] you talking about?” 

After the interviewer explained to Washington that Idris is frequently compared to him and is most known for his work on the series ‘Snowfall,’ he continued, 

“I don’t know who that is.” 

He added, 

“No disrespect, Damson.”

In a previous interview that took place earlier this year, Idris spoke on how it is a “blessing” to be compared to Washington. He said, 

“Stick a cotton ball in my ear. I try to keep my head as small as possible. It’s a blessing. Comparison is verification that what you’re doing is moving people. Mr. Washington has been a person who has always been a template for many young Black actors.”

He added,

“So when you’re doing something well, you’re compared to him, it’s just how it is. Many people have been compared before me and many people will be compared after me. [The] most important thing is just keeping quiet and letting my work do the talking.”

Idris wasn’t joking when he shared that Washington has been an inspiration for him. The ‘Black Mirror’ actor previously shared online a very convincing impersonation of  Denzel Washington.
