Chadwick Boseman’s Brother Says T’Challa Should Be Re-cast For ‘Black Panther’ Sequel
The “Re-cast T’Challa” movement has an unexpected supporter: Chadwick Boseman‘s own brother!
As previously reported, there have recently been some online debates over whether or not Chadwick Boseman‘s T’Challa character should be re-cast in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While the suggestion has picked up some steam in light of actress Letitia Wright‘s controversies, it still proves to be largely divisive among the Marvel and Chadwick Boseman fanbases.
In response to the matter, Chadwick‘s brother–Derrick Boseman–recently shared his opinion on the subject. Surprisingly, Derrick Boseman believes that T’Challa should be re-cast, as he says it’s what Chadwick would have wanted!
Essentially, Derrick Boseman reportedly says that Chadwick was hyper-aware of the positive impact that a Black superhero could have on underrepresented youth and larger African American culture. Additionally, Derrick also claims that his brother always felt as though T’Challa was a larger, independent character rather than one exclusively tied to him.

Despite Derrick Boseman‘s recent claims, it’s worth pointing out that Nate Moore–Marvel’s Vice President of Development–shared his thoughts on the matter last month. He stated:
“I’m being quite honest. You will not see T’Challa in the [future Marvel] universe. We couldn’t do it.”
Nate Moore added:
“When Chad passed, it was a real conversation we had with [director Ryan] Coogler about ‘What do we do?’ And it was a fast conversation… We had to figure out how to move that franchise on without that character. Because I think we all feel so much of T’Challa in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] on the screen… is tied to Chadwick’s performance.”
The Black Panther sequel is set to premiere in Nov. 2022, and it doesn’t seem like there are currently any official plans to re-cast T’Challa.
