Michael K. Williams– Four Arrested In Connection To Actors Overdose

It’s been five months since the untimely death of Michael K. Williams and an arrest has finally been made! Four people have been arrested in connection with the actors drug overdose that took place last September. According to reports, one of the four men–Irvin Cartagena, 39,is charged with selling the fentanyl-laced heroin that allegedly killed Williams. As previously reported, Michael K. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn home on Sept. 6, 2021. After not hearing from him for a few days, a relative went to his home, where his body was discovered.

Damian Williams– the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York–released a statement today (Feb.2) on the arrest:

“Michael K. Williams, a prominent actor and producer, tragically overdosed in his New York City apartment from fentanyl-laced heroin. Today, along with our law enforcement partners at the NYPD, we announce the arrests of members of a drug crew, including Irvin Cartagena, the man who we allege sold the deadly dose of drugs to Michael K. Williams. “

He continued,

“This is a public health crisis.  And it has to stop.  Deadly opioids like fentanyl and heroin don’t care about who you are or what you’ve accomplished.  They just feed addiction and lead to tragedy.  The Southern District of New York and our law enforcement partners will not give up.  We will bring every tool to bear.  And we will continue to hold accountable the dealers who push this poison, exploit addiction, and cause senseless death.”

Reportedly, three alleged co-conspirators– Hector Robles, 57, Luis Cruz, 56, and Carlos Macci, 70–were arrested in New York on Tuesday (Feb.1).

According to Manhattan federal prosecutors and law enforcement, the four men were apart of a drug trafficking organization (the “DTO”) in which they would sell heroin laced with fentanyl and a fentanyl analogue in the Brooklyn, NY area. The legal document states,

“On or about September 5, 2021, members of the DTO sold Michael K. Williams heroin, which was laced with fentanyl and a fentanyl analogue, with CARTAGENA executing the hand-to-hand transaction, as shown in the below screenshots from surveillance video.”

Reportedly, the four men all face conspiracy charges that could put them in prison for up to 40 years. Irvin Cartagena faces additional charges tied to Michael K. Williams‘ death that could get him an additional 20 years.
