Tyra Banks May Not Return To “Dancing With The Stars” Following The Show’s Move From ABC To Disney+
Looks like Tyra’s days on “Dancing With The Stars” may be over.
According to an inside source, “DWS” show execs are heavily considering dropping supermodel Tyra Banks, 48, from hosting the dance competition series. However, the source says an official word on who will host next season has yet to be decided. Just a few days ago, ABC and Disney+ jointly announced the staple ABC series would be moving to the streaming platform Disney+. Reportedly, the move came after the 30 season series struggled with consecutive years of low viewership.
Some reports claim that ANTM creator Tyra Banks is a large reason for the drop in ratings. During her first season hosting, Tyra inaccurately announced which couples were up for elimination. Apparently fans did not take well to the runway powerhouse after that moment, constantly critiquing her from that point on.Viewers complained about the model’s flashy fashion pieces, and even started a petition to have her removed from the show.
However, an inside source says Tyra’s lackluster approval ratings is only partly to blame for the shows recent downfall.
According to the source, production has been extremely turbulent following new show execs entering the mix a few seasons ago. These were the deciding factors that ultimately terminated vet hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. The source stated:
“Dancing With The Stars has always operated like a family behind the scenes. And when new execs and producers came in a couple seasons ago, that family got broken.”
Additionally, the source goes on to explain how lack of direction for the show played a role in the series recent demise stating:
“Production has been a mess, with no clear direction of where [the show] was going, which is why certain producers have been axed in recent months….The mix of the behind-the-scenes chaos and the historically low ratings ultimately was the nail in the coffin….ABC didn’t feel it was worth the investment anymore, but didn’t want to drop it as a whole.”
As far as Tyra’s future with the show, the source assures no final decision have yet been made stating:
“There is no official decision on who will be hosting next season but it doesn’t look like Tyra will be back.”
Offering why they don’t think Tyra will return, the source explained that the fashionista on her own was just not a good fit for the show, stating:
“I wouldn’t say it’s Tyra’s fault the show got dropped by the network….she came in and did the job she was hired to do. The problem is, she just didn’t fit in….She didn’t fit in with producers and she didn’t fit with the audience and it showed.”
It has been speculated that the show is eyeing a few big names to possibly co host or replace Tyra entirely for the shows next two seasons set to air on Disney+. Reportedly, no final decision have yet been made.
