Tyga Hit With A Lawsuit From Vans Over MSCHF Sneaker Collaboration

Tyga Reportedly Facing A Lawsuit From Vans Over MSCHF Sneaker Collaboration
Tyga’s latest business venture might have landed him in serious legal trouble. According to reports, the “Taste” rapper is allegedly being sued by Vans for his “Wavy Baby” sneaker collaboration with MSCHF. The company claims the shoes ripped off its classic design.
Like Vans, the sneakers have a black canvas with white soles and laces and a red tag on the back of the shoe. But the “Wavy Baby” kicks have a squiggly design whereas Vans are usually flat.

Still, the company reportedly feels that it’s enough to sue for “trademark infringement, false designation of origin and unfair competition, and trademark dilution.” The lawsuit reportedly says:
“MSCHF, in collaboration with Mr. Stevenson, has shamelessly marketed the Wavy Baby shoe in a direct effort to confuse consumers, unlawfully siphon sales from Vans, and intentionally damage Vans’ valuable intellectual property rights. The Wavy Baby shoe blatantly and unmistakably incorporates Vans’ iconic trademarks and trade dress.”
The Wavy Babys reportedly carry a $220 price tag and according to a tweet from Tyga, they sold out within minutes when they launched on April 18.

It doesn’t appear that he has directly addressed the reports of a lawsuit, but MSCHF has. The company claimed in an interview that Vans had allegedly agreed to settle the issue and allow the collaboration to continue in exchange for half of the profits. But it turned out “that they were shaking our hand at the same time they were stabbing us in the back,” the company said.
This is only the latest time that MSCHF has been in trouble with another sneaker company. In 2021, it was at the center of a lawsuit from Nike over Lil Nas X‘s Satan Shoes. That matter was settled within months.
