Brian McKnight Pens Heartfelt Message About The Loss Of Newborn Son: Our Hearts Ache For You Every Day

Brian McKnight is opening up about the loss of his newborn son. 

Brian McKnight, 52, took some time this Mother’s Day (May 8) to publicly honor his wife Leilani McKnight, and speak to his infant son who recently passed away. In the first post shared via Instagram, the “Back At One” singer revealed that Mother’s Day was the due date for his son, Kekoa Matteo. In part, he wrote, 

“To our precious son 

Dear Kekoa,

Today would have been your due date, you birth day was to be on Mother’s Day 

Since we were last able to hold you, these past few months without you here with us have been the deepest pain of our lives. Our hearts ache for you everyday Kekoa We love and miss you so much.”

He added, 

“We named you Kekoa Matteo because it means brave warrior, gift from GOD.

You are truly our precious gift from God, our son, love that is everlasting and eternal.

You taught us to be brave. To rememebr that though we feel profound sorrow and unbearable heartache you remain forever with us in our hearts.”

 In a second post, Brian McKnight shared an image of himself with his wife during her pregnancy and his two step-children. In the caption, he wrote, 

“Happy Mothers Day to my beautiful wife. I treasure this picture it was our last family picture before the birth of our son Kekoa Matteo. Baby, you are the greatest example of being a mother I’ve ever witnessed. Today was supposed to be Kekoa’s due date, and I know how hard him not being here in the flesh with us is weighing incredibly heavy on us, but I know he is with us just like Julia and Jack are, as shining examples of your exceptional motherhood.”

He added,

“Our son will always be a part of us and live on in our hearts forever. I’ve never been prouder in my life than I am right now being the father to our three incredible children. It is your wonderful light that shines on us making us all better every day thank you for giving me this priceless gift you are my hero I’m so forever very much in love with you baby Happy Mother’s Day my love.”

Brian McKnight has yet to share the cause of his son’s death.
