Jerrod Carmichael Scrutinizes Dave Chappelle Over Controversial Transgender Jokes: It’s An Odd Hill To Die On
Jerrod Carmichael believes comedian Dave Chappelle has tarnished his legacy.
In a recent interview, comedian Jerrod Carmichael opens up about his struggles with finding support in the older generation after coming out as gay in his latest HBO special “Rothaniel.” Jerrod Carmichael says his 15-year-old niece was the only person to offer words of kindness during that time.

Carmichael, 35, says:
“She hit me with a quick text, ‘I see you. I hear you,’ I love this generation. I actually f*ck with them, and f*ck all those comedians that are going so hard against them.”
Carmichael continues to express his feelings on certain comedians having to “create a boogeyman to sell tickets.” The comedian scoffs and adds:
“These comedians offer nothing truthful or meaningful about themselves then complain about society at large and create this boogeyman.”
Carmichael mentions Dave Chappelle, 48, and says:
“Chappelle, do you know what comes up when you Google your name, bro? That’s the legacy? Your legacy is a bunch of opinions on trans sh*t?”
Carmichael continues:
“It’s an odd hill to die on. And it’s like, hey, bro. Who the f*ck are you? Who do you f*ck? What do you like to do? Childish jokes aside, who the f*ck are you? It’s just kind of played. But he’s choosing to die on the hill. So, alright, let him.”

Dave Chappelle
In Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special “The Closer,” Chappelle mentioned that “gender is a fact.” Chappelle tells the audience:
“Every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth.”
Chappelle also identified himself in the series as “Team TERF.” TERF is an acronym for trans-exlusionary radical feminist, a theory that excludes trans women as women. Some people were in outrage after watching “The Closer,” and called the “Half Baked” actor out online for his remarks. Chappelle’s controversial comments also caused protests and Netflix employee walkouts. The famed comedian has previously stated he is willing to meet with the trans community under certain conditions.
