Michelle Obama Announces Second Book Coming This Fall: I Really Can’t Wait To Share Even More With You
Following her Grammy-Award-winning/best-selling memoir “Becoming,” the former first lady is releasing her second book!

This morning (July 21) Michelle Obama took to Instagram to announce her upcoming memoir “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times” in a video message. Michelle Obama said:
“I can’t believe it’s been a few years since I published my memoir ‘Becoming.’ And in that time a lot has happened. We’ve seen a global pandemic. We’ve seen an insurrection, a rising tide of hate and bigotry and intolerance and a whole lot more.”
Michelle Obama continued:
“And it’s often left me feeling out of balance. I don’t know about you, I felt vulnerable. And yes, at times, I felt afraid. How do we overcome? How do we overcome our fears? How can we channel our frustration into something positive? And how do we rekindle that flame that’s inside of each of us?”
Michelle added:
“And I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on those kind of questions. I’ve spoken to a lot of loved ones, many of you, about what we all seem to be facing, and what has resulted from that process is actually my new book. It’s called “The Light We Carry.”
Michelle shared:
“And I think of it as a kind of a tool box, a collection of some of the perspectives and practices I’ve gathered over the years to help keep me centered. Even during times of high anxiety and stress. And my hope is that we can equip ourselves with new tools and attitudes so that together, maybe we’ll be a little steadier with the understanding that none of us has to go through any of this alone. And I really can’t wait to share even more with you.”
According to reports, Michelle’s book will be released on November 15th in 14 different languages in 27 countries around the world. In a lengthy caption, Michelle shared more insight about her memoir. The 58-year-old said:
“Like so many of you, I’ve spent a lot of time these past few years thinking about how to keep myself centered in a world filled with so much uncertainty. That process of reflection actually led me to start writing again—and today, I could not be more thrilled to tell you about my new book, The Light We Carry, which comes out on November 15.”
Michelle continued:
“This book is a collection of stories and practices that have helped me sort through all the challenges and questions that keep us up at night: How do I know I’m good enough? How do I bring my whole self to the table? How can I overcome my fears?”
Michelle added:
“I never thought I would be the author of one book, let alone two. But I’ve found that writing this has been a way for me to gather my thoughts and find more clarity during this time. So, I hope this book means as much to you as it does to me.”

The book will be released under Penguin Random House. Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House said:
“Penguin Random House is honored to partner once again with Michelle Obama and to help bring her powerful storytelling and earned wisdom to readers everywhere.”
Markus Dohle added:
“I am confident that her new book will provide all of us with some urgently needed reassurance while rekindling a spirit of optimism about the power we all hold to positively shape our personal and collective futures.”
In Michelle’s first memoir, “Becoming,” she shared her journey growing up on the south side of Chicago to becoming the first lady of the United States. The book sold more than 17 million copies around the world and turned into a world tour for Michelle.
