Tiffany Haddish Says She Checked W/ Usher Before Making A Joke About His Alleged Herpes

Comedian Tiffany Haddish recently revealed that her material might come at the expense of her celebrity friends, but she always makes sure to check with them first.

During a recent interview, stand-up comedian/actress Tiffany Haddish spoke on taking responsibility in comedy. She said,

“I check and verify with people. If I can’t say it to your face, I shouldn’t be able to say it. Period. That’s how I draw the line.”

The “Girls Trip” star went on to provide an example of how she goes about using her friendly punchlines. She revealed that she has a joke about R&B singer Usher, 43, allegedly having herpes, which is a sexually transmitted disease. Tiffany Haddish also shared that she openly has said the joke in front of the “Confessions” singer. She told the magazine,

“I got this joke, ‘I curse you out with joy. I hope that you spread it. I hope you spread it like Usher spreads herpes.’ I have said that in front of Usher.”

In response to the playful jab, Haddish shared,

“Usher said, ‘Your a** is crazy.’ I said, ‘Yeah, well, there’s a rumor out there saying you got herpes. I don’t know if you do or don’t, but that sh*t is funny.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, it is.’”

The 42-year-old author added,

“If he had said, ‘Tiff, don’t say that no more. I don’t like it. I’m not comfortable with you saying that,’ I would stop saying it.”

In 2017, herpes allegations seemingly started against the Grammy-winning artist when he was accused of potentially passing herpes to multiple sexual partners without warning them of his reported STD diagnosis.

As previously reported, Usher was sued by Laura Helm after allegedly claiming he gave her herpes after a sexual encounter between the two. Laura Helm initially filed her lawsuit back in 2017 for $10 million, but she later dismissed the case for unspecified reasons and refiled it again in 2018. She filed to dismiss the lawsuit for the final time after she and Usher reportedly had,

“reached an amicable resolution.”
