Idris Elba Shares Gratitude For Not Being Instantly Successful In His Acting Career: Back Then, I Would’ve Wished To Get Here Quicker Without Trauma
Idris Elba is grateful he had to work for his success instead of it being handed to him.

In a recent interview, actor Idris Elba discussed loving the direction his career took off in. Idris Elba shared:
“I’m so fortunate to have the life I have now.”
The 49-year-old continued:
“It has been, though, the hardest and toughest journey. Back then, I would’ve wished to get here quicker without having to go through some of the trauma.”
The Takers actor revealed having no regrets throughout his path of being an actor. He said:
“I don’t think at this junction I would appreciate the way I am now having not gone through that journey. I really do think that all the things that I have I would’ve wished for as a young man, it wouldn’t be the same if I got it [back then].”

As previously reported, prior to stardom Elba related more to his American Gangster character than fans thought. Elba has always been transparent about being a drug dealer back in the day so he could afford to fund his acting career. During a previous interview, he shared his past life experiences and said that his weed-selling client list included celebrities such as Dave Chappelle.

The London native said:
“I went to a performing arts college and did two years of everything –– scene painting, a little ballet, a little contemporary dance. I came out and basically went straight into work.”
Elba explained that when he migrated to America to become an actor he hit some bumps in the road. He said:
“It just all fell flat on its face very quickly for about four years.”
He added:
“In that time period, I did a lot of things that I’m not proud of. But I did a lot of the things. I used to sell weed. It wasn’t [legal] back then. I did that for a little bit just to pay the way. Dave Chappelle remembers me ’cause he used to buy weed from me. Anyway, moving on. But yeah, I did all kinds of things, to be honest.”
