Charlamagne tha God Says ‘Angela Yee Can’t Be Replaced,’ But The Breakfast Club Will Continue: I don’t think it’s gonna be one person. It might be two.
Angela Yee may be moving on, but as far as Charlamagne tha God is concerned, she will always be part of The Breakfast Club.
During a recent interview with Madame Noire, Charlamagne tha God (real name Lenard McKelvy) opened up about the power and the importance of Black women. He said,
“Black women are the CEOs of our lives and have been since day one. Growing up, I studied Islam and they teach that the Black man is the foundation of the family like the sun is the foundation of the solar system. And as I got older I was like, ‘I don’t see it that way’. I think the Black woman is the foundation of the family, and when that foundation is strong, it allows the man to be able to build on top of that foundation…Black men and Black women make the best team.”
He went on to address what some may consider the elephant in the room, sharing that despite how much she will be missed, The Breakfast Club will not be ending with Angela Yee‘s exit. Especially because he is under a contract that doesn’t expire until 2025.
According to Charlamagne tha God,
“I’m not going away. Envy is not going away. Angela Yee can’t be replaced, but we are a club. So that club has to expand and we’re going to bring in new members. So if people are wondering, are there going to be new members in The Breakfast Club? Yes.”
In fact, there may be more than one new host joining the circle. According to Charlamagne,
“I don’t think it’s gonna be one person. It might be two.”
As previously reported, Angela Yee announced on August 10 that she’s stepping away from The Breakfast Club to head her own nationally syndicated show, Way Up With Angela Yee. While she will likely have a hand in the decision process, the long-time radio said that ultimately, it’s up to Charlamagne and DJ Envy to decide who will replace her. Yee said,
“I mean obviously it’s for them to decide, and I’ll be there until they decide, and maybe I’ll be there helping while they audition people. But I think nothing is going to be set and stone until they feel the chemistry.”
