John Boyega Alleges Black Actors Will Never Get The Opportunity To Play James Bond
According to John Boyega, James Bond will never be Black!
Reports state that James Bond’s role is currently up in the air following Daniel Craig’s departure after his fifth consecutive appearance as the iconic character in the 2021 blockbuster film No Time To Die. Actor John Boyega claimed producer Barbara Broccoli will never cast a Black man for the role. In a recent podcast John Boyega was questioned if he’d consider playing James Bond. The 30-year-old said:
“I’m sorry but I’m black – I don’t know how. When you’re black, I don’t know how that goes.”
“You as a white man grew up in a society as a white man and that’s normal. That’s normal to you. Even the mention of a black Bond is like ‘Oh, okay’.”
The London native, born John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega, added:
“I don’t necessarily believe that but if that’s what they’re doing then that is very surprising to me. As an actor, you kind of just stay out of that conversation. But if it’s for you then maybe. But if not then you just enjoy it in a movie theatre like everyone else.”
Another Black London native wasn’t interested in taking the role. After years of phone calls, as previously reported, actor Idris Elba declined playing James Bond and is looking to pursue other roles. A source said:
“He’s put forward names to play 007. He’s ‘informally’ in the decision-making process as he’s been in talks with producers for so long.”
During the premiere of his movie The Harder They Fall, Idris Elba said he wasn’t considering being the next agent 007. Idris Elba said:
“No, I’m not going to be James Bond.”
The 50-year-old, who celebrated his birthday yesterday (Sept. 6), continued:
“I’m probably the most famous Bond actor in the world, and I haven’t even played the role.”
“Enough is enough. I can’t talk about it anymore.”
