Chadwick Boseman – President Of Marvel Studios Explains Why ‘It Was Much Too Soon To Recast’ Late Actor’s Role As T’Challa: The World Is Still Processing The Loss Of Chad
Chadwick Boseman definitely left a strong impression on the world and the Marvel Universe!
When news broke that there was going to be a Black Panther sequel without the original King T’Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, leading the charge, many Marvel fans were sad, to say the least. As you may already know, Chadwick Boseman made acclaimed appearances as the superhero in not only the first Black Panther film but also in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Sadly, in 2020, Boseman passed away following a battle with cancer, leaving the fate of the franchise and his iconic character in limbo. However, according to reports, it was ultimately ruled that (for the time being) Boseman’s character would not be recast.
During a recent interview, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, opened up about why he and the film’s director Ryan Coogler made the decision to not allow someone else to fill King T’Challa’s shoes for the highly-anticipated follow-up project.
Kevin Feige said:
“It just felt like it was much too soon to recast. Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we had talked about how, as extraordinary and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do. The world is still processing the loss of Chad. And Ryan poured that into the story.”

Kevin Feige added that he and Ryan Coogler figured out how to channel the situation for the scores of sentimental fans who found refuge in Boseman’s on-screen representation.
Kevin Feige continued:
“The conversations were entirely about, yes, ‘What do we do next?’ And how could the legacy of Chadwick – and what he had done to help Wakanda and the Black Panther become these incredible, aspirational, iconic ideas – continue? That’s what it was all about.”
Black Panther:Wakanda Forever premieres on November 11, 2022.
