Tory Lanez On Why He Stopped Speaking Publicly About Shooting Case Involving Megan Thee Stallion: I’m Actively Facing 24 Years, I’ve Never Played Internet Games & I’m Not About To Start Now

Rapper Tory Lanez is getting real about his potentially bleak future.

The Canadian musician joined DJ Akademiks podcast Off The Record recently where he opened up about his upcoming trial against fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was charged back in 2020 for allegedly shooting Megan, born Megan Pete, 27, in the foot. As the trial date looms closer, Lanez suggests he’s taking the matter quite seriously as he’s facing a possible 24 year jail stint.

Addressing why he’s stopped speaking publicly on the matter, the 30-year-old stated:

“There is a time and a place brother – when for those people who I do not know and do not owe any explanation will get an explanation….I’ve always been a time and place guy,”

He continued:

“In a lot of situations what a lot of people don’t realize is, one thing connects to another – and when you start talking about one thing, people then connect it to something else….most of the time, those things have no correlation to each other. And so because of that, you avoid it in its entirety because it’s not the time and place.”

After police arrived at the scene back in 2020, Megan initially told police her foot was bleeding due to stepping on a glass. In a later interview with Gayle King, the “Plan B” artist claimed she was initially trying to protect Lanez, who she’s since vehemently accused of pulling the trigger.

The former friends have engaged in back and forth accusations since the court case began. Lanez was formally charged with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying an unregistered weapon, three months after the incident took place. Following the charge, Megan went live to publicize that Lanez indeed shot her, after initial months of only speculation.

Subsequently, Lanez began discrediting Megan, claiming she was lying and implicating her former best friend Kelsey Nicole. The “Say It” artist went as far as questioning the validity of her medical records showing the injured foot. Megan responded by releasing apologetic text messages that Lanez allegedly sent after the incident, where he wrote:

“I know u prolly never gone talk to me again But I genuinely want u to know I’m sorry form the bottom of my heart And I was just too drunk . None the less sh*t should have never happened”

In April of this year, Lanez was arrested for violating the protective order Megan has against him. A judge ruled him in contempt after he began tweeting about the situation. Among other things, Lanez claims having sexual relations with both Megan and Kelsey was the reason for his apology texts. He was released the same day after posting a $350k bail.

Although the artist previously claimed he’d continue to speak on things following his arrest, it seems Lanez has changed his tune. His potential sentencing of 24 years seems to have played a part in the decision. Speaking to Akademiks about not speaking on his possible detainment, he stated:

“It’s not about me trying to be too cool….No guys, I am in an open case and maybe I make this sh*t look really beautiful, but I’m facing 24 years….I am actively facing 24 years – next month.”

“This is not no play play situation….I’ve been in this for three years. I’ve never played internet games with you guys and I’m not bout to start now.”

Megan and Tory’s trial is set to begin sometime in the month couple of months.
