Ne-Yo — Judge Denies Singer’s Motion To Have Estranged Wife Crystal Renay Found In Contempt Of Court For Instagram Post Claiming He Had Unprotected Sex w/ Prostitutes
A Georgia judge has shut down Ne-Yo’s demand that his estranged wife Crystal Renay be found in contempt of court as their heated divorce battle continues.
According to a report by RadarOnline, a court hearing was recently held for Ne-Yo, 42, and Crystal Renay after the R&B singer filed an emergency motion. The judge found that Crystal Renay, 36, was not in willful violation of the court order. The judge also did not order the entrepreneur to remove social media posts that accused Ne-Yo of cheating on her.
Born Shaffer Chimere Smith, Ne-Yo reportedly said in his initial motion after Crystal Renay filed for divorce that she bashed him online. He claimed his job as a professional entertainer was dependent on his public image. According to Ne-Yo’s lawyer, his client’s
“earnings and earning capacities are directly affected by the manner by which his image is received and considered by the general public.”
As previously reported, the famed singer/songwriter accused Renay of violating the court order by publishing an emotional post on Instagram. Ne-Yo filed a motion alleging that Renay had broken their court agreement not to “harass” one another as their divorce settlement negotiations proceed. Renay’s post accused him of being a narcist, subjecting her to “eight years of lies and deception,” and soliciting unprotected sex with prostitutes. Renay wrote,
“8 years of lies and deception. 8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with numerous of women who sell their bodies to him unprotected … every last one of them! To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mentality of a narcissist.”
The Grammy Award-winning artist accused Renay of speaking out in an attempt to gain public sympathy. Speaking about his estranged wife’s actions he calls “reckless and distasteful,” the motion reportedly reads,
“To date, [Ne-Yo] has loss approximately $400,000 in wages associated with public appearances, professional bookings, and promotional efforts related to the promotion of his new musical project”
Ne-Yo’s lawyer argued,
“Court intervention is necessary at this time to cease the immediate injury to [Ne-Yo]. Without the intervention of the Court, [Crystal] will continue to engage in similar public acts that are not only in direct violation of the Standing Order but detrimental to the [Ne-Yo].”
Ne-Yo demanded Renay be ordered to remove all social media posts about him and their marriage along with an order banning her from talking about him publicly. Reportedly, the judge did not order Renay to remove any posts, however, he instructed both parties to refrain from making public statements or derogatory statements on social media, podcasts, and other platforms. The judge said any future incidents could lead to sanctions.
