‘P-Valley’ Star J. Alphonse Nicholson Marries Longtime Girlfriend, Pair Ties The Knot In Star-Studded L.A. Wedding

P-Valley star J. Alphonse Nicholson, better known as Lil Murda, married his longtime girlfriend Nafeesha Nicholson on Friday, Oct.7.

According to sources, the pair said “I do” in front of about 150 friends and family at the Vibiana– a cathedral-turned-event-hall in the downtown L.A. area. They exchanged their vows in front of some famous friends, including; actor Lance Gross and his wife Rebecca, The Chi star Miriam A. Hyman and her partner, FX’s Kindred actress Sheria Irving, and Jerry O’Connell and his wife Rebecca Romijn. In addition to that, guests were entertained by a performance by singer Adrian Marcel.

In an interview with ESSENCE, J. Alphonse and Nafeesha opened up about their relationship and their journey to the altar.

The pair began dating in 2016 back when J. Alphonse was an up-and-coming actor on the stage in Oakland and also beat on buckets as a drummer in subway stations in New York City to make ends meet. According to J. Alphonse, Nafeesha didn’t write him off as he balanced those jobs to make a living.

In a short speech at their wedding reception, J. Alphonse spoke about his wife’s unwavering loyalty.

“She told me and I believe her, that if that never changed she would be with me to this day.”

After years of dating, the pair got engaged in 2019. Both J. Alphonse and Nafeesha have children from previous relationships. J. Alphonse has a son and Nafeesha has a daughter.

Wedding plans were halted for the couple due to the COVID-19 lockdown. They were also living long distance while the P-Valley star performed on Broadway in NYC. Thankfully, they finally got the chance to spend a lot of time together and got their first shared space in Los Angeles in 2020, becoming inseparable.

J. Alphonse told ESSENCE,

“We just hung out and had a great time and just fell more and more in love with each other…We spent some quality time with our children and towards the end of the pandemic, I told her, I said, ‘Listen, I’m not trying to wait. We got to have this wedding, but I’m not trying to wait to have it.”

He continued,

“So can we just go down to this little spot, get married, go ahead and get my ring on my finger?’ She already had one. I wanted one on mine. So we made that happen and started to think about a date for the actual wedding.”

After pushing wedding dates back multiple times, the pair finally decided on October 7, 2022. As they returned to planning, they found themselves separated once again for 10 months as J.Alphonse went to work on the second season of P-Valley in Atlanta. While the distance was hard, they were soon reunited, bond stronger than ever, and went into overdrive to plan their special day.

As for what the future holds, the Nicholsons are looking forward to continuing to support each other’s next big endeavors, including J. Alphonse getting into directing and producing, and Nafeesha launching her first company next year. As the ‘Just Mercy’ actor put it, his biggest hope for the near future is,

“For us just to continue to grow and love on each other.”
