Update – Kanye West’s Donda Academy Opens Again Just Hours After Announcing Shut Down
Update: (Oct. 27, 2022): It looks like the students at Kanye’s Donda Academy will still have a place to learn after all.
The private school is opening its doors again just hours after sending parents an announcement that the learning institution was closing “effective immediately.” According to reports, Parents and students of Donda received an email this morning (Oct. 27) reading,
“Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy. With the help of our parents and community, we are back and returning with a vengeance!”
The email continues,
“The children of Donda are going to change the world. Apologies for the late email! See you bright and early!”
Original Story: (Oct. 27, 2022): Donda Academy students woke up this morning (Oct. 27) with no classes on their itinerary.
Kanye West’s Donda Academy has been closed effective immediately as it is now a part of the fallout from the Grammy Award winner’s recent antisemitic remarks. The unaccredited K-8 private Christian school, named after Kanye West’s late mother, Professor Donda West, sent a notice out to parents alerting them that it would be closing. On Wednesday night (Oct. 26) Principal Jason Angell wrote in the email:
“There is no school tomorrow.”

Principal Jason Angell added:
“At the discretion of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately.”
The news arrives shortly after an educational advisor for the secretive school gave their two weeks’ notice due to Kanye’s harmful remarks. Tamar Andrews, who held a prominent position at the school and has been employed there for three months, resigned and had her last day with Donda Academy on Tuesday (Oct. 11), according to reports. President of Temple Isaiah of Los Angeles, Allison Samek, said in a statement:
“Dr. Andrews immediately resigned from Donda Academy following Ye West’s tweet.”
As previously reported, Kanye West has been facing a domino effect of terminated partnerships in recent weeks due to his controversial comments about George Floyd’s death, Black people, and his intent to go “death con 3” on Jewish people. The closure of his school comes shortly after the 45-year-old lost his billionaire status due to Adidas terminating their fashion collaboration — Adidas Yeezy with him. In a statement, the famed sports brand said:
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
Balenciaga also announced on Thursday (Oct. 20) that they have decided to call it quits with the Chicago native. The luxury fashion house said that they would no longer be working on projects with Kanye and released in a statement:
“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”
