NBA Star Jaylen Brown Working To Salvage Donda Academy’s Basketball Season, Says Players ‘Should Not Be Penalized’ For Kanye West’s Antisemitic Remarks: They Have Nothing To Do With What’s Going On
Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown, 26, is doing what he can so Donda Academy’s basketball team doesn’t go down the drain alongside Kanye West.
Last week it was announced that the Scholastic Play-By-Play Classics removed Donda Academy from this season’s schedule. The ban came as a direct result of antisemitic remarks made by the school’s owner, Kanye “Ye” West. In a released statement Scholastic Play-By-Play Classics acknowledged its “heartache and regret for Donda’s hard-working athletes who will lose out the most as a result of Kanye’s actions” however, the organization has stood firm in its decision to remove the team from the tournament.

Jaylen Brown signed with Kanye’s sports agency earlier this year, but, as many others have also done, he recently made the decision to cut ties with the ‘Moon’ rapper. According to new reports, since leaving Donda Sports, Jaylen Brown has been actively working to save what he can of the Donda Academy’s basketball season.

Allegedly, the highschool aged students have been greatly impacted by Kanye’s actions. In addition to their season essentially being put on ice, the boys are having to organize practice seasons on their own now due to no longer being backed by Donda Academy. Reportedly, because Donda’s season hasn’t yet been officially canceled, it’s hard for the student-athletes to transfer to another school’s basketball program.
On October 29, Brown announced on Twitter that he’s hosting a tournament on November 6 for the Donda players. He tweeted,
“It’s important resources are provided for these student-athletes not taken away. shout out to
@Morehouse for opening their doors to host the Donda Doves’ official1st basketball game of the season. I need everyone in Atlanta to show love and support! I’ll be in attendance.”

He added,
“Our youth needs our support more than ever if you can stop by come out Nov 6th to
@Morehouse at 7:30pm and show love and support to these young people. They have nothing to do with what’s going on and should not be penalized #wedontcancelourkids”
