Megan Thee Stallion Granted Restraining Order Against Estranged Label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, Over AMAs
Megan Thee Stallion isn’t letting anything get in the way of her showing out at the American Music Awards this weekend.
As previously reported, Megan Thee Stallion was nominated for “Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist” at the American Music Awards set to take place this Sunday (Nov. 20). It appears that the “Tina Montana” rapper wants to make sure nothing spoils her big night. A judge recently granted Megan Thee Stallion a restraining order against her estranged label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, and distributor, 300 Entertainment. Both parties have been accused of trying to sabotage Megan’s broadcast at the AMAs.

According to documents obtained by Billboard, 1501 Certified Entertainment took “unlawful” steps “to block or interfere with Pete exploiting, licensing, or publishing her music” leading up to the AMAs. The court order states that the “Hot Girl,” born Megan Pete, “provided evidence” that the label “recently engaged and will continue to engage in threatening and retaliatory behavior that will irreparably harm” her music career.

Reportedly, the documents don’t note what steps 1501 or 300 took to interfere with the AMAs broadcast. However, the court does claim that it filed an ex parte order, which is granted for the benefit of one party without waiting for the other party to defend themselves. The order adds that with the AMAs’ voting concluding yesterday (Nov.14) the “WAP” artist,
“will suffer irreparable harm if her music cannot be used in conjunction with her promotion for the AMAs.”
In addition, the documents state that 1501 and any parties acting “in concert or participation with” them are prohibited from “preventing or blocking the use and exploitation” of the 27-year-old’s music for the AMAs. A hearing for the ongoing restraining order request is set to take place on Tuesday (Nov. 22).

As previously reported, the Texas native has been in a stressful legal battle with her estranged label since March 2020. She has been candid about her efforts to be released from the contract she signed with 1501, owned by former baseball player Carl Crawford. In February, Megan filed a lawsuit against the independent label for a minimum of one million dollars in damages, claiming the label refused to compensate her for her share of the royalties from her music. The rapper added that her second studio album “Traumazine” satisfied the quota of her record deal with 1501, amid seeking the assistance of a Texas court to end her “burdensome” relationship with the Houston label.
