Al Sharpton Defends Deion Sanders’ Choice To Leave JSU For Colorado: A Lot Of Us Had Such Pride In Him Being At An HBCU That We Forget That People Make Personal Decisions
Al Sharpton wants the haters to get off of Deion Sanders back.
During a recent chat with the paparazzi, civil rights activist Al Sharpton defended Deion Sanders’ choice to take his talents to the University of Colorado Boulder after being the head football coach at Jackson State University for three years. As previously reported, Deion Sanders recently made headlines when news broke that he was leaving the HBCU for a new university.
Over the weekend, while in New York City, Al Sharpton shared:
“I think that a lot of us had such pride in him being at an HBCU that we forget that people make personal decisions.”
The civil rights activist added:
“And they have the right to do that.”
Following the announcement about Sanders’ plans to leave JSU for the University of Colorado Boulder mixed feelings have surfaced on the internet. Critics have called the retired professional athlete out for leaving the HBCU that he helped turn around for a Pac-12 program.
However, Sharpton wants the scrutiny to end. During his latest interview, he noted that Sanders did everything he said he would accomplish at Jackson State University before leaving the school. The 68-year-old said:
“I think he did what he said he was going to do at the HBCU. He’s moved on. I think that our job is to make sure Jackson State and others continue at the same level.”
