Update: ‘General Hospital’ Star Sonya Eddy’s Cause Of Death Revealed, Actress Died Following Complications From Surgery

Update: (Dec. 21, 2022): Sonya Eddy’s cause of death has been revealed.

According to reports, the well-known actress died due to complications following a non-emergency surgery. Tyler Ford, a close friend/producing partner of Sonya’s, recently shared that she went in for a pre-scheduled procedure on Dec. 9 and was released a couple of days later on Dec. 11.

Unfortunately, the TV star started to feel ill and returned to the hospital on Dec. 15. According to Ford, upon her return, doctors discovered that Sonya had developed an infection that became uncontainable. On Monday morning (Dec. 19), Sonya was placed on life support and she died later that night.

Original Story: (Dec. 20, 2022): General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy has died at the age of 55.

The news of her passing was announced on social media on Tuesday (Dec. 20), by actress Octavia Spencer, who described her as a “creative angel.”

Octavia Spencer said,

“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!”

Social media users also mourned the death of Sonya Eddy, celebrating her outstanding work on the long-running ABC soap drama.

Stephanie, whose Twitter profile lists her as a journalist for ABC, said:

“OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I JUST READ ABOUT SONYA EDDY . EPIPHANY WAS THE BEST NURSE & BEST CHARACTER OF ALL THE CAST ON GH . MY HEART IS SOOOOOOOO BROKEN RIGHT NOW .”

In 2006, Sonya Eddy made her first appearances in the 543 episodes she starred in of General Hospital. Her role as Epiphany Johnson, the chief nurse, and mother of the late fictional character Stan Johnson who became involved in the mob, is well-remembered by viewers.

According to another Twitter user,

“Sonya Eddy was such a commanding force on @GeneralHospital her Character Epiphany took nothing off anyone. Even a Mob Boss, who he himself knew better than to mess with Epiphany. She earned that respect Sonya Eddy was a wonderful Actress. @GeneralHospital won’t be the same.”

Eddy made her television debut in 1995 on The Drew Carey Show before going on to star in a number of other shows and films, such as Seinfeld, Monk, Reba, CSI, Glee, Castle, and Fresh Off the Boat.

Eddy’s cause of death remains unknown at this time.
