‘Madden’ Removing CPR Touchdown Celebration Following Damar Hamlin’s Cardiac Arrest Emergency
The CPR touchdown celebration in the Madden video game will be removed.
According to reports, the video game developer, EA Sports, is in the process of removing the animation in wake of the Damar Hamlin emergency that occurred last week.
A spokesperson for the gaming giant told sources the virtual end zone dance will be taken away in the next few days as part of an update to “Madden NFL 23.”
The touchdown celebration has become a popular feature that allows players who scored touchdowns to pretend they’re in need of CPR, while other teammates imitate administering CPR in an effort to “revive” them.

While this has been popular amongst Madden gamers, many are now finding this to be offensive and insensitive considering NFL player Damar Hamlin needed CPR during the Bills vs. Bengals game last Monday night (Jan.2).
As previously reported, Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the football game. According to reports, things took a left turn when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin fell on his back moments after getting up from an open field tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. 10 seconds after his fall, Hamlin was administered CPR on the field and was taken out of the stadium to an ambulance. The NFL ultimately suspended the game at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter.
The official Twitter account for the Buffalo Bills also released a statement regarding Hamlin’s health scare.
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”
Thankfully, the athlete is on the road to recovery and was released from a Cincinnati hospital and transferred to a facility in Buffalo on Monday (Jan.9).
Damar Hamlin offered his supporters an update via Twitter on Monday and said,
“Headed home to Buffalo today with a lot of love on my heart.
Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling.
The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more.
Bigger than football!”
