El DeBarge Arrested For Weapon & Drug Possession After Cops Allegedly Discover Metal Baton, Pepper Spray & Heroin In Singer’s Vehicle 

El DeBarge is starting off 2023 was a bang.

According to new reports, El DeBarge was placed in handcuffs on Sunday (Jan. 8) around 3:40 a.m. after Burbank cops discovered expired tags on his vehicle at a gas station. Reportedly, El DeBarge was already parked at the gas station when police officers approached his car because of the expired tags. That’s when authorities realized he had an expandable metal baton in plain sight.

The finding of the metal baton, which is an illegal weapon, gave cops motive to search the 61-year-old’s car. During the search, they allegedly discovered DeBarge was driving without a license and had pepper spray. He was also suspected to have narcotics on his person. The singer was put behind bars on a few charges, including; possession of a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, which law enforcement believes was heroin.

Reports state that DeBarge posted his $25,000 bond and was mandated to appear in court this March. This isn’t the first time the musician spent a night in jail. As previously reported, in 2001 and 2006, the Michigan native was arrested for cocaine/controlled substance possession. In 2007, he was detained for a domestic dispute, however, the charges were later dropped.

The next year, he was arrested for crack and drug paraphernalia possession and was sentenced to two years in prison for violating the terms of his probation. In addition to that, in 2012,  DeBarge was arrested for possession of narcotics, with intent to sell, after being booked, he was released on a $30,000 bail.

Besides his criminal history, DeBarge is known for his popular hits including “Time Will Reveal,” “Who’s Holding Donna Now,” “Stay with Me,” “All This Love,” and “Rhythm of the Night.”
