Malcolm-Jamal Warner is opening up about his true feelings toward Bill Cosby.

Bill Cosby’s reputation has drastically changed from once being considered “America’s dad.” According to reports, at the height of his career, the 85-year-old entertainer was one of the highest-paid and most loved stars in the country. However, today, Bill Cosby is no longer seen in a positive light due to the multiple sexual assault allegations that have surfaced against him over the years. In April 2018, Cosby was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault and was ultimately sentenced to three to ten years in prison.

However, due to reported violations of his due process rights, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the conviction and he was set free in June of 2021. Since his release, he’s continued to face legal troubles and accusations for his alleged actions.

During a recent interview with journalist Jemele Hill, actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner – who played Bill Cosby’s son during all eight seasons of “The Cosby Show” – was asked if he resents Cosby for his actions impacting his financial compensation for the series or how people view the show. He replied,

“No. I get how this business works. For one, and just that whole situation is so layered, man. I can’t defend him or his actions at all. But I also can’t throw him under the bus completely.”

He added,

“Because I have an understanding of all of the layers. Like, it’s so complex and it’s so many shades of gray, that most people will never get.”

As you may recall, following Cosby’s conviction many streaming platforms and networks pulled his sitcom from their lineup. Despite the backlash received, Cosby has plans to return to the world of comedy. As previously reported, in Dec., after being hit with a new sexual assault lawsuit, Cosby shared he’s looking to host a comedy tour this year. During an interview, he said,

“When I come out of this, I feel that I will be able to perform and be the Bill Cosby that my audience knows me to be.”

In response to whether 2023 may be a year for touring, Cosby replied,

“Yes. Yes, because there’s so much fun to be had in this storytelling that I do. Years ago, maybe 10 years ago, I found it was better to say it after I write it.”
