Sheryl Lee Ralph Addresses Critics Who Claim She Lip-Synced ‘Lift Every Voice & Sing’ Performance At Super Bowl: ‘Does It Matter?’
Sheryl Lee Ralph is on cloud 9 following her Super Bowl performance and she isn’t allowing anyone to bring her down.
As you may know by now, over the weekend the nation watched as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII with a final score of 38 to 35. In addition to the game, many viewers tuned in to watch Rihanna headline the halftime show performance, during which she confirmed rumors that she’s expecting her second child with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky. Rihanna wasn’t the only fan favorite who sang their heart out during the famed sporting event. Prior to kickoff, “Abbott Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph performed “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” the Black national anthem, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

A little before showtime she shared how excited she was about her performance. Sheryl Lee Ralph tweeted,
“It is no coincidence that I will be singing the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing at the Super Bowl on the same date it was first publicly performed 123 years ago (February 12, 1900). Happy Black History Month!”

Despite Sheryl Lee Ralph giving an amazing performance, there were still naysayers who speculated that the Emmy Award-winning actress lip-synced the entire song. Following the game, Sheryl Lee Ralph addressed the critics and said,
“Does it matter? Does it matter? No. Thank you.”
She continued,
“It’s just so amazing that they chose me. And then the Eagles are in the Super Bowl. I mean, come on. You know God must be a woman because all of this is just too perfect.”
She added,
“And the way people have been coming back, they said, ‘Girl, you made the pre-show look like it was trying to be halftime.’ They said, ‘The costume. The wardrobe. The hair. The shoes. The makeup.’ I was just like, ‘Well, thank you. Fenty of it all, hey.’”

It should come as no surprise that Sheryl Lee Ralph shut down her critics with ease as she’s seemingly not afraid to speak her mind. Earlier this year she made headlines for shading the Kardashians. While giving advice to her younger self she said,
“There’s nothing wrong with your nose. There’s nothing wrong with the shade of your skin.”
She added,
“There’s nothing wrong with the way your hair grows out of your head. And there is certainly nothing wrong with your lips because there will be some people called [the] Kardashians and they will pay 10 thousand dollars for your lips.”
