Da Brat Pregnant At 48, Expecting First Child w/ Wife Jesseca Harris-Dupart: ‘I Thought It Wasn’t In The Cards For Me’

Congratulations are in order for Da Brat and Jesseca Harris-Dupart!

It’s been revealed that Da Brat (real name Shawntae Harris-Dupart) and her wife Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart are expecting a baby!

What began as a joke turned into something more serious. Jesseca, 41, is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products and was in the midst of launching a new line inspired by Da Brat and her iconic braids and protective hairstyles when the pair discussed the possibility of having a baby.

She explained,

“It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!’ “

As for Da Brat, she thought the ship had sailed, and being a mother wasn’t in the cards for her anymore.

“I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.”

However, things changed when she met her wife.

“I started looking at life so differently. I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”

Still, Da Brat wasn’t all the way convinced by the idea of carrying a child.

She said,

“I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!”

However, Jesseca was able to convince her spouse otherwise.

“We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience. She is so nurturing.”

The road to carrying a baby wasn’t always an easy one. The decision for Da Brat to carry worked out for the best, because Jesseca suffered major health complications following her egg retrieval procedure. But the rapper faced difficult health issues as well, including having to undergo surgery to remove fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure.

Sadly, Da Brat suffered a miscarriage.

“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

During a previous interview, Jesseca and Da Brat opened up about their IVF journey and shared that they’ve been temporarily hospitalized due to different complications. Jesseca Harris-Dupart said :

“She’s [Da Brat] never experienced it [motherhood] and she is a very caring person. She is the most nurturing person I’ve ever met in my whole entire life. So I just think that, that would be great and anything that I’m able to give her in this lifetime I will. So, and since you’ve been through IVF, you can just imagine the journey, the complications, I was hospitalized with blood clots. It’s just been a lot but we were not giving up…We want a baby together. So we want it to be, you know, we wanted, we want some of me, some of her. So we both had to go through different things to make it happen. This has been a journey.”

Thankfully, their luck turned around. In her latest interview, Da Brat shared,

“Luckily, we still had quite a few of her eggs left.”

The couple, who chose an anonymous donor from their cryobank, is now 18 weeks pregnant.

Da Brat, who is in her second trimester added,

“It’s just a blessing. I’m excited! I don’t have any cravings or nausea, but I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy!”
