Stephanie Mills doesn’t seem to see a comparison between iconic singers Diana Ross and Beyoncé.
In a new interview, singer/songwriter Stephanie Mills, 65, engaged in a friendly debate with Shawn Prez about Diana Ross, 78, and Beyoncé. In an attempt to give Diana Ross her flowers, Prez claimed that Diana Ross “was Beyoncé before Beyoncé.” However, according to Stephanie Mills, the two talented women can not be compared.

Mills then said that Diana represents royalty, R&B, and class personified, while Beyoncé, 41, is from a different generation that is more associated with hip-hop.

Stephanie began with,
“I don’t think you can compare Beyoncé to Diana Ross.”
She elaborated and continued,
“It’s just different. I consider Beyoncé hip-hop. I consider Diana R&B and pop. I consider her royalty. I’ve always wanted to be like Diana. When I saw Lady Sings the Blues and I would go to her shows in Vegas they were always so wonderful and classy.”
Stephanie said,
“Diana Ross is the epitome of beauty and class to me.”

She added,
“I see her [Beyoncé] more like hip-hop than anything. And I still think she’s wonderful don’t get me wrong. It’s two totally different generations to me.”
