Kevin Hart’s First Comedy Show In Egypt Canceled Due To His ‘Afrocentric’ Views
Not-so-good news for Kevin Hart!
The actor’s stand-up comedy debut in Egypt was canceled amid protest over his “Afrocentric” views.
The concert promoters issued a statement confirming the cancellation:

According to reports, Kevin Hart is being accused of “distorting history” by claiming Black people had a significant role in ancient Egypt or in the creation of western civilization. Reportedly, the 43-year-old previously stated,
“We must teach our children the true history of Black Africans when they were kings in Egypt and not just the era of slavery that is cemented by education in America. Do you remember the time when we were kings?”
Although it’s unclear where Hart’s remarks originated from, the statement sparked controversy and backlash and reportedly became a trending topic on social media in Egypt in December. It also launched the #StopAfroCentricConference boycott. One user went as far as to Tweet,
“want to steal and attribute Egypt’s civilization to Africans and tell modern Egyptians that we are occupying Egypt from them. We must all participate in the campaign to cancel Kevin’s concert.”

Monica Hanna, Dean of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport in Egypt spoke on the matter and said,
“Both extreme Egyptian nationalists and Afrocentrists adopt discourses based on racist ideas of color and ethnicity that are utterly detached from scientific, historical and cultural facts. Their fights resemble those of violent rival football fans.”
As no surprise, several users took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the canceled show. Many people were thrilled with the decision.
One user wrote,
“Kevin, Hart’s nonsense show canceled keep his Afrocentric a** out of Egypt.”
While another person said,
“Seeing Kevin hart’s show here get canceled is so satisfying to see.”
Someone else wrote,
“Kevin Hart’s performance in Egypt canceled because of backlash against his American Afrocentric comments, namely that Egypt’s history belongs to South Africa. Americans are embarrassing.”
Kevin Hart has yet to speak out on the incident.
