Regina Hall Jokingly Recalls Time Sanaa Lathan Vouched For Her To Land A Role But It Went To Regina King Instead

Regina Hall wholeheartedly appreciates the support Sanaa Lathan has given her throughout her career.

On Thursday afternoon (Mar. 9) entertainers and key players behind the scenes appeared at the 16th annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood event at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The event has been generated to give flowers to Black women who have greatly contributed to film and television.

Actress Regina Hall,52, was one of the Black women who was honored with an award at the ceremony. Amid her acceptance speech, she showed her appreciation to fellow actress and friend Sanaa Lathan, 51, for supporting her over the years. Recalling a time when she was jobless and staying at Sanaa Lathan’s residence, Hall shared:

“I needed a job and Sanaa was like ‘baby, I shouldn’t tell you but Phillip just told me you’re gonna get an offer tomorrow.’ I was so excited. I was like, ‘I am?’ [Sanaa said,] ‘don’t say anything to your agents because I wasn’t supposed to tell you.’”

Regina Hall continued and said that she waited for a call that never came. After doing some research, she learned that the role was given to another famous “Regina” in Hollywood. She said:

“Nothing. Anyway, turns out the offer was for Regina King.”

According to Hall, although Regina King, 52, was picked for the role over her, Lathan continued to recommend her to everyone she met. Hall continued:

“[Sanaa], come here, because your friends support you and they want you to be seen.”

She jokingly added:

“And she does know all my secrets, I know hers too. I’mma write a book when things get rough.”
