Marques Houston Accuses The Media Of Creating A Negative Narrative About His Marriage To Wife Miya When She Was Only 19: It’s So Easy To Move Out The Way & Let Bottom Feeders Eat

Marques Houston is protecting his peace… and his marriage.

As previously reported, earlier this month, actor/singer Marques Houston made national headlines after speaking on his controversial union with his wife, Miya.

During a promotional clip for his ‘Uncensored’ episode on TVOne, Marques Houston opened up about the criticism he faced after tying the knot with Miya when she was only 19. At the time of their nuptials, which was back in 2020, Houston was said to have been 39.

The ‘Sister, Sister’ star admitted to meeting Miya at the age of 17. He said,

“Me and my wife’s situation is a little different. How we met through mutual friends and everything like that. When I met my wife, she was seventeen. So, no [real] conversation… no [real] connection until, you know, she was of age.”

Houston added,

“People don’t understand it, and I got a lot of backlash for marrying someone that was nineteen.”

According to the ‘Immature’ member, it was their spiritual likeness and love for God and Jehovah that initially drew them together… romantically.

Following those comments surrounding their unconventional partnership, Houston further defended his reasoning for jumping the broom with Miya (who’s also the mother of his child) by alleging that women in his age group often came with “baggage.”

In an interview with journalist Tashara Jones, he revealed,

“I’m forty-one, and [Miya] is twenty-two. I could’ve married a forty-four-year-old woman, and it would’ve been disastrous.”

The now-41-year-old continued:

“Women that are my age… they kind of have a different outlook on life. Like, a lot of women my age are very independent. They are very like, ‘I don’t need a man to do this for me ’cause I can do it for myself.'”

Houston concluded his remarks by stating:

“There [are] a lot of women my age I’ve dated, [and] they may have baggage. They may have kids, [or] they may not. There [are] so many different women I’ve been with throughout my life, and it just so happens to be that this one (Miya) caught my heart.”

Subsequent to those statements, Houston came under fire online, and he has since responded. The ‘You Got Served’ phenomenon blamed the media for (seemingly) “pinning people against people” for financial benefit.

He wrote in his Instagram Story,

“To all my fans, supporters and real truth seekers I can see how the media would love to pin people against people for monetary gain but when [you’re] at peace, loving life and able to still make a positive impact in the entertainment world for over 2 decades, it’s so easy to move out the way and let bottom feeders eat. #Protectyourpeace I LOVE YOU ALL!”

Houston’s clap back came after his ‘Immature’ (aka IMx) bandmate Jerome “Rome” Jones apologized on behalf of the group for Houston’s comments about women with baggage.

In a message released to his social media, Rome detailed,

“It’s unfortunate that in the moment of mourning and griefing my brother, I would have to speak on statements that I o not agree with. But as a member of Immature, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies in regards to the insensitive statements made by my former group member Marques Houston.”

He added,

“Women today have enough battles to endure including the policing of their bodies, equal pay in the workplace, and beauty standards. It is never ok to degrade one group of women in order to praise another.”

So far, there have been no further (direct) words about the situation from either party.
