Wendy Williams Reportedly Pitched Herself To Join The Real Housewives of New York City, But Andy Cohen Declined

It looks like Wendy Williams had hopes of becoming a ‘Real Housewife.’

According to Andy Cohen’s new book, The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up, Wendy Williams once pitched herself to join Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City. Reportedly, the former host of The Wendy Williams Show called Andy Cohen in May 2022 and told him she wanted to be on RHONY. However, Andy said he turned down the idea due to Wendy Williams’ personal issues.

Andy said in the book:

“Had this call come a year earlier, it would’ve been a brilliant idea. If she is struggling with mental health issues, though, this isn’t the time. Her enthusiasm was infectious, though when I was explaining the idea of Legacy and the brand-new show, she just wanted to focus on the last version. So the conversation didn’t go anywhere.”

As you may recall, The Wendy Williams Show came to a controversial end following 12 seasons on air after Williams dealt with ongoing health concerns. Sherri Shepherd, who filled in as a guest for several of the show’s episodes, secured the coveted daytime talk show slot with her new series Sherri.

While we won’t see Wendy Williams on RHONY, we may be seeing the former talk show host on our tv screens in the near future. As previously reported, Wendy Williams has been spotted filming for an upcoming project. Wendy’s rep Shawn Zanotti confirmed that while it is not a reality show, she is indeed filming.

She said,

“After taking a long break, Wendy feels some of the best days of her life were in media. She has been in media since her early 20’s and wants to return to what she loves…Yes, Wendy is filming…Yes, she is gearing up for something and the specifics of that can’t be disclosed as of yet.”

Back in February, the 58-year-old reportedly brought a grand production crew of atleast 30 individuals to film into a New York eatery, sparking rumors of a possible reality TV special. One witness who happened to be dining at the restaurant described the scene, stating:

“Basically it was a regular night…and then all of the sudden the Wendy Williams train arrived…She had a huge crew that basically turned Fresco by Scotto into a movie set.”

As for RHONY, the series got a complete reboot and is featuring a brand new cast. Season 14 will begin airing this July. Bravo had also announced plans for another show, RHONY: Legacy, which was set to feature former stars of the franchise like Luann de LessepsSonja Morgan, and Dorinda Medley. However, plans for RHONY: Legacy have reportedly stalled.
