Bankroll Freddie — Former Atlanta Police Officer Receives 10-Year Sentence For Role In 2019 Armed Robbery Of Rapper
An Atlanta police officer will spend the next 10 years behind bars for his role in the armed robbery of rapper Bankroll Freddie.
According to reports, Cobb County court records show that former officer Justin Mikale Thorne, 26, pleaded guilty to multiple felonies earlier this month, admitting that he had a hand in the 2019 crime.
The robbery occurred at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Cobb County, near The Battery, just after 11 a.m.
Moments before the incident, Thorne can be seen in surveillance images pulling into a parking space at the motel and conversing with what appears to be two males in a Toyota Camry.
Several minutes later, security images and videos show Thorne walking around the fourth floor while carrying a rifle and wearing his Atlanta Police Department uniform, seemingly acting as a lookout, as the two men robbed Bankroll Freddie (real name Freddie Gladney III) and his cousin.
Two weeks before the armed robbery, Thorne reportedly left the APD following an internal affairs investigation into claims that he had suggested accepting money from a suspect with an active warrant in return for getting the warrant revoked.
During a bond hearing in 2019, Thorne’s attorney told the judge his client got involved because someone threatened him and his family.
Unfortunately, the “Drip Like Dis” rapper has a legal issue of his own he’s dealing with. In a separate incident, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Freddie in Arkansas in November after being mentioned in one of three indictments that accused 80 people of offenses ranging from conspiracy to distributing drugs to violating the laws regarding the possession of guns.
Freddie was one of 35 individuals charged in connection with the central Arkansas-based street gang “Every Body Killas,” or EBK.
