Update: Gunplay Loses Custody Of Infant Daughter After Missing Court Date, Rapper Accused Of Pointing A Rifle At His Wife While She Held Their Child

Update: (Oct. 10, 2023): New details have surfaced surrounding Gunplay’s domestic abuse case.

As previously reported, in August the rapper’s (estranged) wife, Vonshae Taylor-Morales, said he pointed a rifle at her while she was holding their 6-month-old daughter. Gunplay was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and child abuse. Following the crazy incident, Vonshae filed for divorce and got a temporary restraining order against the “Power Circle” artist.

According to new reports, Gunplay skipped out on a recent court date and lost custody of his daughter. Now, he’s only allowed to see the young child through court-monitored visits or virtually through an app called TalkingParents.

It’s been reported that he’s missed a few other hearings regarding the temporary restraining order his ex currently has against him and if he misses one more the order will become permanent. If this happens, he won’t be allowed to see his daughter until she’s 18.

Vonshae has reportedly requested child support, the exact amount will be determined at a later court hearing.

Original Story: (Aug. 21, 2023): Rapper Gunplay is being accused of some very serious offenses.

Following the musician’s arrest over the weekend, his wife Vonshae shared details on the dark incident, and made clear her intent to leave the relationship.

Reportedly Gunplay, real name Richard Welton Morales, 44, was booked by Miami Dade police over the weekend (August 20th). According to his arrest details, the “Love & Hip Hop Miami” star was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and child abuse. A local reporter stated that Gunplay is accused of pointing a rifle at his wife, Vonshae Taylor-Morales, 43, while she was holding their 6-month-old daughter.

While an official police report regarding the incident has not been released, Vonshae did address the situation via Instagram. In a lengthy post, she wrote:

“I just want everyone to know my daughter and I are safe. My daughter safety is my first priority. Unfortunately Richard is back using and developed a very bad drinking problem. I’ve tried everything in my power to help him and love him. This is a demon he has to overcome on his own. At this point I really believe it’s too late.”

Continuing, the reality star directly spoke to the incident that led to Gunplay’s arrest, writing:

“To summarize last night event. I asked Richard to quiet down as he scared the baby sleeping by yelling playing call of duty. He started going off on me for asking him to be quiet. I tried to collect a bag so my daughter and I can go to a room while he sobers up. He didn’t want us to leave and things went left fast. He was arrested last night, the weapon is in police custody.”

And added:

“I have a restraining order, my daughter is in my custody and I am filing for divorce. He will never get the chance to disrespect us again.”

Gunplay joined the “Love & Hip Hop” franchise back in 2018, with a storyline that chronicled his efforts to get back into music and overcome his struggles with substance abuse. The rapper reportedly began making a name for himself as part of rap star Rick Ross‘ Southern hip hop group Triple C’s prior to going solo. In 2012, the reality star reportedly faced life in prison after being charged with armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. However, the charges were later dropped, and Gunplay relocated to Atlanta before heading back to Miami to join the VHI series.

In 2022, after taking a step back from the show and only appearing in a supporting role, Gunplay introduced his relationship with Afro-Latina influencer Vonshae. The two reportedly quietly eloped later that year, also announcing they were welcoming a child together. While it seems things had been good, it’s clear that Vonshae has had enough and seems through with the relationship. Gunplay has not spoken out about his arrest at this time, and it is unclear if he remains behind bars.
