Update: Jeannie Mai Removes ‘Jenkins’ Last Name From Instagram After Sharing She’s Focusing On Her Daughter Amid Divorce From Rapper Jeezy

Update: (Oct. 17, 2023): Jeannie Mai was serious when she said her main focus is her child.

As previously reported, the media personality recently spoke on her separation from rapper Jeezy and said,

I’m just focusing on [our daughter] and focusing on things that I’m passionate about. When you’re surrounded by people, you just get to laugh and look at things that you enjoy doing in life.”

Her remarks came after Jeezy, born Jay Wayne Jenkins, shocked the world by filing for divorce last month, citing the marriage was “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”

Initially, reports claimed Jeannie was devastated the “Put On” artist wanted to end their marriage and was doing what she could to repair the damage. However, it now looks like she’s ready to accept the breakup. Internet users noticed that Jeannie finally removed her ex’s last name, Jenkins, from her IG bio over the weekend. After getting married she changed her name on the platform to “Jeannie Mai Jenkins.”

Early Thursday (Oct. 13), Jeannie took to her Instagram to (seemingly) share an update on how she’s coping with her new normal. The “Emmy” winner posted a photo of a handwritten note that read, “Sometimes, you need to take a break and disconnect, to heal,”

Jeannie’s subtle message was met with support from followers who expressed their empathy in the comment section.

Here’s what some Instagram users had to say about the post:

Jeannie’s transparency continued during an interview with ET. While promoting her new game show “Raid the Cage” with actor and comedian Damon Wayans Jr. The celebrity stylist was asked how she was doing during such a rough time, and she responded,

“I’m taking it day by day and thankfully being able to have a show like this and be able to do something that you enjoy doing takes your mind off things. I’m just focusing on Monaco and focusing on things that I’m passionate about. When you’re surrounded by people, you just get to laugh and look at things that you enjoy doing in life.”

Official details regarding the reason for the split have yet to be disclosed, but a close source reportedly stated that the pair had very different views and needs that weren’t being met.

Jeezy has remained quiet since filing but has been spotted wearing his wedding ring, and the pair have been rumored to still live together in their Georgia home. The exes seem amicable as they agree that their primary focus is raising their beautiful daughter, Monaco.
