Evelyn Lozada Calls Off Engagement To ‘Queen’s Court’ Contestant Lavon Lewis, Credits Quick Nature Of Their Relationship & Resurfaced Trauma From Previous Marriage To Chad Ochocinco As The Reason Why

Reality TV star Evelyn Lozada is no longer getting married.

Reportedly, the “Basketball Wives” cast member ended her engagement to Lavon Lewis, sharing the decision was mutual.

As we previously covered, Evelyn Lozada, 47, said yes to Lavon Lewis, 42, after the pair met on the Peacock series “Queen’s Court” earlier this year. After becoming a finalist on the series, Lewis popped the question to the TV personality back in March, much to her surprise and excitement. It seems the whirlwind of new found love got ahead of the couple, however, as the relationship recently came to an end.

Lozada explained how the quickness of their love affair and her own dating history led to their romance ending. She reportedly stated during a recent interview:

“Things went so fast. Six months later we were engaged, and I just felt a little bit of a disconnect. And the distance he lives in Atlanta, that was another thing that was really, really difficult,”

Adding:

“He has a son that is, I believe, in his first year of high school or going to high school. It was a lot of moving parts and it just started becoming difficult, and I was just like, ‘I don’t want to keep this going just for the world.’”

Additionally, Lozado shared that in planning the wedding, a lot of hurt she thought she healed through from her previous marriage began to make her anxious. If you recall, the socialite was briefly married to former NFL star Chad Ochocinco. The pair wed in July 2012 before divorcing just two short months later following an intense domestic violence incident that led to the athlete’s arrest, and that he’s previously stated continues to follow him to this day.

Speaking on how that marriage effected her relationship with Lewis, Lozada stated:

“When I was married before, I was a newlywed and a divorcée at the same time. I divorced 42 days later. So, I didn’t know that I was going to have anxiety about getting married again.” 

Adding:

 “I feel like it’s deep-rooted. I feel, like, definitely connected to that incident, that marriage, which I’ve done therapy for. But now, it’s kind of like I’m digging this back up, the whole wedding. And that was hard. It was a difficult time for me. I got married on [the] 4th of July, and by the time August came, I was already filing for divorce.”

Lozada also stated that she felt like she didn’t fully get to know Lewis prior to saying yes, due to the show only filming for 6 weeks. This fact likely played a roll in Tamar Braxton’s breakup with fiancé Jeremy ‘J.R.’ Robinson. The songstress got engaged to the businessman following their love story on the series as well, but revealed they called it quits earlier this month.

As far as Lewis and Lozada goes, however, the entertainer maintains that the split was amicable and that they both felt it was the best decision. She added in the interview:

 “I’m just happy that he’s not bitter or we’re not in a negative space. I feel like all breakups don’t have to end up like that.”
