Eminem Filed Protective Order Against Gizelle Bryant & Robyn Dixon To Avoid Appearing In Court For Their Ongoing Trademark Dispute

Looks like rapper Eminem doesn’t really want to be involved in the lawsuit he has going against Robyn Dixon and Gizelle Bryant.

Reports state the musician recently filed a protective order against the reality stars simply to avoid being forced to show up in person for their court case.

As we previously covered Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, filed an opposition against “The Real Housewives of Potomac” stars back in February after they attempted to trademark the name of their podcast Reasonably Shady. In his motion, the “Monster” artist argued the name is too similar to another of his well known monickers, Slim Shady, and could potentially confuse consumers.

Though Dixon and Bryant immediately moved to have the case dismissed, a judge allowed the complaint to move forward. Now that sessions have begun, however, it seems Eminem is doing his best to distance himself from being personally involved. Reports state the  51-year-old argued in his request for a protective order against them that it would be “unduly burdensome” if he was mandated to appear as he has “limited knowledge of the subjects at issue.” Instead, he requested that three of his attorneys who have “equal and superior knowledge to [him] on the relevant topics” be allowed to appear in his place.

Eminem’s protective order request comes weeks after Dixon and Bryant motioned the court to require the rap star appear for a deposition and be questioned under oath. Their lawyers reportedly issued a statement after his latest filing, explaining:

“The main issue now is that Mathers is refusing to be deposed. Mathers is the owner of the marks at issue and his attorneys are saying he doesn’t have information about the marks. We have filed a motion to compel Mathers to be deposed. It seems obvious to us that if you file a lawsuit, you should be made available to be deposed,”

Adding:

“It’s unclear to us that Mathers can be the owner of the trademarks and file this suit against our clients but he will not make himself available to be deposed,”

A judge has reportedly not yet ruled on the matter at this time.
