Actress Mo’Nique opened up about a potentially fatal experience she once had on a set.

During her recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, the comedian claimed that while filming for the movie “Almost Christmas”, a dressing room trailer had a gas leak and blew up. What’s worse, the producer allegedly knew about the threat but refused to intervene.

Following her increasingly viral interview on Shannon Sharpe’s talk series, Mo’Nique, as she said she would during the episode, shared a video clip of what the trailers looked like after they caught fire. The video shows two burnt-up trailers with charred objects falling out of them as the fire department appears to investigate. At one point in the video, you can hear the entertainer state:

“Can you imagine if we was in that trailer?”

During Club Shay Shay, Mo’Nique explained the events that led up to that moment and accused the movie’s producer Will Packer of intentionally failing to prevent the dangerous situation from happening. According to “The Parkers” star, she joined the cast of the 2016 holiday comedy-drama as a favor to her husband’s close friend David Talbert who wrote and directed the film. Though Mo’Nique says she and Packer initially agreed on her only appearing in a cameo, the role continued to stretch over time, creating some tension between the two.

While filming, Mo’Nique says she confronted Packer for undermining the director by giving cast cues and attempting to do his job for him. Things came to a boil for the two after his assistant allegedly entered Mo’Nique’s trailer and chastised her assistant for having her shoes off. The comedic actress says she called for Packer and asked him who she needs to talk to about the individual for being out of line, to which the “Girl’s Trip” producer allegedly responded:

“I’m the head n*gga in charge”

Mo’Nique says she responded with:

“‘Who are you the head n*gga in charge of? We have Danny Glover on this set. We have a legend and an icon. Are you the head n*gga n charge of him? Are you the head n*gga in charge of Kimberly Elyse? Are you the head n*gga in charge of  Gabrielle Union? Are you the head n*gga in charge of  J.B. Smoove? Who are you the head n*gga in charge of?'”

She continued:

“So he tried to laugh it and joke it, I said ‘uhn uhn, I don’t play that way brotha.’ I said ‘The food is bad, what are we doing here?’…The food was slop…nobody ever ate that food because it was just like you can feed them anything. Now here’s where it gets better. Remember how Taraji said [her] trailers were infested? Our trailers blew up…if any of us had been in those trailers we would’ve been gone.”

Mo’Nique went on to state that she and a few others had already told the men responsible for their trailers that they smelled gas. However, they allegedly responded by telling her they had made Packer aware of the situation but he simply “said ok and walked away.” She added during the interview:

“Did Will Packer reach out to anybody? I can’t say, he didn’t reach out to me and say ‘Hey is everything ok? Did you lose anything…is everything good?’ The only thing they wanted to know from me was where was Aunt May’s wigs…not the studio, not Will Packer, not nobody said ‘Are you good, did you lose anything?'”

The actress continued, doubling down on the idea that Black entertainers are often mistreated on set, and suspects that most people don’t speak up out of fear of retaliation. It does not appear that Packer has responded to Mo’Nique’s accusations at this time.
