Update: Mo’Nique Responds To Claims From Estranged Son That She’s Pushing A ‘False Narrative’ About Wanting To Reconcile Their Relationship: ‘Let’s Let It Play Out’ 

Update: (Feb 13, 2024): Mo’Nique wasted no time responding to the allegations from her oldest son.

As recently reported, Shalon Jackson shared a video to TikTok slamming his famous mother for claiming during her Club Shay Shay appearance that she wants to work on their damaged relationship. During the 9-minute video, he said,

“Neither one of us cares to put forth any effort to reconcile with the other. We are ‘separate,’ as she put it, because she doesn’t care to be my mother anymore than I care to be her son.”

As his remarks started to make headlines Mo’Nique took to a live stream alongside her husband/manager Sidney Hicks to address what was said. “The Parkers” star stated,

“There are some people that are saying ‘Oh, you should be ashamed of your mothering skills, you should be ashamed of yourself.’ This is what I’ll say, let’s let it play out. Because the same ones that said to me [that] I was crazy, I was deranged, we watched it play out. So just like with my son, we’ll watch this play out.”

Mo’Nique then spoke directly to Shalon for referring to Sidney as “her daddy” during his video, stating,

“You know this has been Uncle Sid your whole life…so, for you to say ‘Her three sons,’ yes you’re absolutely right, he has three sons. He can’t claim you as his son because he’s always been Uncle Sid and he knows your daddy very well.” 

Sidney also spoke during the stream and claimed that despite how Shalon made it seem in his video, they have helped him out financially over the years and also sent baby gifts when his daughter was born. In addition, Sidney alleged that Shalon has a history of speaking “ill” to his mom.

Shalon Jackson claimed that his mother’s remark about wanting to mend their bond is a “false narrative,” and stated he’d appreciate it if she stopped making the situation seem like it’s something it’s not.

The professional jokester’s son spoke about the topic in a recent video posted to his TikTok account. Jackson’s 9-minute video comes as a response to Mo’Nique recently stating that she’s “praying to the universe” that their relationship can be healed. In case you’re unfamiliar, the 56-year-old made the comment during her recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay.

Reacting to his mother’s comment, Jackson stated:

“To address the ‘Club Shay Shay’ interview that she did where she states that she prays to the universe in regards to reconciling our relationship…is odd. My mother and I both know that that is a very false narrative and I would like to free her of having to continue telling that lie,”

He continued:

Neither one of us has had the desire to reach out to the other in a very long time and I don’t think that either one of us anticipates that feeling ever returning.”

Jackson went on to state that past conversations he has had with the comic about their relationship lead her to have “odd” revelations about her parenting, or her retreating to her husband Sidney Hicks – who he refers to as “Daddy” throughout the conversation – for validation. The celebrity’s son added that he’s responding to his mother’s recent admission about their strained relationship now “as a form of therapy,” and highlighted the fact that he gets to say his piece without interruption.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Jackson suggested that Mo’Nique’s maternal instinct likely didn’t show up until she had her three sons with Hicks, and shared that his feelings were hurt when his step-father “intentionally” excluded him when talking about their children. Despite it all, Jackson said there was a time he was willing to forgive his mother’s neglect. According to him, however, the entertainer’s actions made it all but impossible for him. He further stated:

“Nobody’s perfect, we’re all human. But my mother showed a clear lack of humility, compassion, consideration when taking any level of accountability…my mother does a fantastic job of ‘acknowledging’ a lot of things, but she doesn’t take accountability very well and anything that she may take true accountability for is only at her convenience.”

Jackson claimed Mo’Nique has never shown interest in him as her son and noted the apology she gave him for her lack of parenting “holds no weight.” He also suggested his famous mom has narcissistic tendencies, claiming she told him he would have to be the one to reach out to her if he ever wanted to reconcile their broken relationship. Ultimately, Jackson said he believes the only love Mo’Nique attempted to show him came in the form of monetary things, and claimed she reprimanded him for being “ungrateful” when he needed more from her. Today, however, Jackson shared he is happy and healthy, and showed his excitement at being a father, adding that he did learn a few things from his mom:

“I did learn how not to love from my mother. I also learned to make sure that I never lose so much of who I am that I have to validate it through another person….I do appreciate my mother for showing me what the top of the mountain looks like…but I don’t want something like that at the cost of giving up something that I created.”

Jackson also claimed that despite his hopes that Mo’Nique would at least embrace his daughter, the moment never came.
