Solange Knowles Reveals ‘Fumbled’ Opportunity To Work w/ Katt Williams For Critically Acclaimed Album ‘A Seat At The Table’
Hindsight is 20/20.
Solange Knowles is a woman of many talents. In addition to her impressive body of music, the 37-year-old has made a name for herself in the performance arts space as well, working with several international museums and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. On top of that, in 2022 she became the second Black woman to compose a score for the New York City Ballet. With a résumé as iconic as hers, it may come as no surprise that Solange Knowles only has a “few regrets” when looking back on what she has created thus far.
During a recent interview with Harper’s BAZAAR Magazine, Solange Knowles said,
“There are very few regrets that I have in my career.”
She continued, revealing that one regret comes from a missed opportunity to work with Katt Williams.
“I was supposed to work with [comedian] Katt Williams on A Seat at the Table. I went to his show, went backstage to ask him. Honestly, I fumbled the ball. But he is singular.”
“A Seat at the Table” is Solange’s third studio album and was released in 2016 by her own record label Saint Records and Columbia Records. Solange didn’t elaborate during her latest cover piece why the possible collaboration with Katt Williams ultimately fell through. However, if he did make the album the famed comedian would have joined the list of many other A-listers on the project. As you may recall, the 21-track album features the likes of Tina Knowles, Lil Wayne, Kelly Rowland, Q-Tip, The-Dream and more!
Speaking more on the critically acclaimed album, Solange later added,
“A Seat at the Table, and the work that went into it, was all about origin: finding the way that history was generationally repeating itself or evolving and all of the ways that I found those stories within me.”
“A Seat at the Table” scored Solange her first number-one album on the US Billboard 200 chart and also a Grammy Award. The “Johnson Family Vacation” actress won Best R&B Performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for a performance of the album’s lead single, “Cranes in the Sky.”
