Wendy Williams’ Family Says She’s Currently In A Facility To Treat ‘Cognitive Issues’ & They Have No Direct Contact w/ The Media Personality: ‘The People Who Love Her Cannot See Her’

Family members of famed TV host Wendy Williams are opening up about the current condition of her life.

During a recent interview, several of the entertainer’s loved ones condemned the government’s conservatorship program she’s under as they say it’s preventing them from keeping a close eye on their relative.

As we recently covered, Wendy Williams has a forthcoming documentary titled “Where’s Wendy Williams” that will somewhat explain her absence from the media over the past two years. Ahead of the project’s release, family members of the media maven, who also will appear in the feature, are speaking out about her condition. During a recent interview, Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, reportedly stated:

“We’ve all seen the images over the last few months — and, really, few years — of what has seemed like a spiral for my aunt,”

She added:

“It was shocking and heartbreaking to see her in this state.”

Williams‘ sister Wanda went on to share that her sibling has been enrolled in a treatment facility since April of last year to treat “cognitive issues” where she remains to date. According to her, the family has no way of calling or messaging her directly, and the guardian that the court appointed to manage the TV personality’s health and finances is the only one with unrestricted access to her.

It’s noted, however, that Williams can reach out to them if she chooses. The arrangement doesn’t seem like one the family had too much say in or is happy with. Wanda reportedly told interviewers:

“The people who love her cannot see her…I think the big [question] is: How the hell did we get here?”

The report also revealed that the aforementioned documentary’s original concept was to follow Williams’ big comeback to hosting. If you recall back in August of 2022, the entertainer was promoting her new podcast “The Wendy Williams Experience.” It would have been the first time Williams was heading her own series since the cancellation of her eponymous daytime talk show, which was replaced by “The Sherri Show.”

However, the report noted that the doc quickly shifted into something else as Williams’, who is an executive producer of the project, health continued to decline and her alcohol addiction became more aggressive. In the trailer for the doc, Williams talks about her money issues over the past few years while her family speaks about her concerns over her health, well-being, and conservatorship.

The documentary will reportedly trace the origins of Williams‘ spiral, from her divorce from Kevin Hunter and her many hospitalizations to address her health and addiction issues to her legal and financial troubles. The doc is set to premiere on Lifetime on February 24th.
