RuPaul Charles Steps Down As ‘Drag Race Down Under’ Host, Taps Michelle Visage To Take His Spot: ‘I Can’t Wait To See The Franchise Continue To Flourish’
RuPaul Charles has decided not to return as host for the hit spinoff series “Drag Race Down Under.”
However, RuPaul Charles will reportedly remain as the series executive producer. In a recently released statement, the 63-year-old mentioned who will take his place during season 4 of the upcoming reality competition series.
“It has been my great honor to bring Drag Race to Australasia. I can’t wait to see the franchise continue to flourish under the leadership of the incredible Michelle Visage.”
This move is a big one for Michelle Visage as it marks the first time the former member of the girl group Seduction will preside over an entire Drag Race spinoff. Michelle Visage also spoke to an entertainment publication about the new position.
“Thank you, RuPaul, for entrusting me with one of your beloved shows. The color, humor, and outrageousness of Down Under drag holds a special place in my heart. I’m ready to do everything in my power to encourage these beautiful queens to believe in themselves and let their inner light shine through.”
Michelle Visage also hosts “Whatcha Packin,” an exit interview series for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars” contestants.
According to reports, she has worked with RuPaul Charles throughout her career. Between 1996 and 1998, she co-hosted his widely popular VH1 talk series, “The RuPaul Show.”
In addition to the host, each “Drag Race Down Under “season has featured two other regular judges. Additionally, some episodes have guest judges who only appear in that episode. But as of now, regular judge Rhys Nicholson will reportedly remain on the panel, with additional seats occupied by a rotating roster of “Down Under” queens throughout the season and regular celebrity guest judges.
