Pharrell Abruptly Ends Performance In Saudi Arabia After Fans Throw Wristbands On Stage, Says It Was Threatening The Safety Of His Female Dancers
Pharrell Williams’ performance in Saudi Arabia ended earlier than expected.
The Happy singer headlined the Formula 1 post-race concert on Saturday (March 9) along with fellow global music icons Alicia Keys and Martin Garrix. However, Pharrell Williams ended his live performance early after getting upset when fans threw light-up wristbands onto the set at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
He explained,
“This is the liveliest city right now on the planet but we have also got to be the safest. I know you guys are excited and I know you are waiting to throw your wrist gadgets and lights and all that, but you can’t as the girls are dancing. And me? I love women, how about you?”
Pharrell Williams continued,
“We must protect our women so if you want to throw them lights you have to throw them the other way, not at the stage. Who understands what I’m saying?”
Despite the stern warning, fans continued to throw the light-up wristbands on stage, which sparked a reaction from the 13-time Grammy winner.
Pharrell yelled,
“Let’s take those stupid wristbands and throw them in the air right now when I count to three. And now we are done.”
Before he walked off stage, the philanthropist told fans,
“OK, I am going to let you finish.”
Similarly, rapper Kid Cudi cut his Rolling Loud Festival performance in 2022 short after fans threw multiple water bottles at him from the crowd.
At that time, Kid Cudi was performing the fourth song of his set, “REVOFEV,” when what appeared to be a bottle thrown from the crowd hit him square in the face.
After the impact, the “Day ‘N’ Nite” rapper shouted sternly,
“Yo, I will walk off this stage if you all throw one more f*cking thing up here, I will leave, I will leave right now.”
He continued,
“Throw one more f*cking thing on this stage and I’ll walk off, I’m not f*cking playing. I’m not f*cking playing, you will ruin it for everybody.”
After his warning, a fan threw another water bottle at Kid Cudi, and he walked off the stage.
