Ray J Apologizes To Monica For Remarks About Her Opening For Brandy If They Went On Tour Together: ‘You Are A Great Artist’

Update (March 21, 2:37 p.m. ET): Ray J is apologizing to Monica after she called him out on social for speaking about her.

While on the Way Up With Angela Yee show on Thursday (March 21), Ray J said he planned on calling Monica as soon as he left the radio studio, adding,

“Monica, if I said anything wrong, I apologize.”

He continued,

“You are a great artist, you and Brandy have made history together. All I want to do is just kind of shake it up a little bit to get y’all together to see … that should be one of those last wave tours.”

He said,

“Give the world what they want — a Brandy and Monica tour.”

He added that he has nothing but “respect” for Monica before apologizing again. He also noted that he hasn’t talked to Brandy about a possible tour either.

Original Story (March 21, 11:37 a.m. ET) Looks like Monica isn’t here for Ray J‘s thoughts on a possible tour collab between her and his sister Brandy.

The R&B songstress called the reality star out recently for making remarks about the fictional tour and asked him to speak with her in private before he takes any opinions about the matter public.

Monica

Responding to Ray J’s comment that she should be the tour opener if she and Brandy were to ever do a concert series together, Monica wrote:

“I’ve been repeatedly contacted about interviews ect. where my name and tour possibilities are being discussed ! I’ve not received any contracts or calls about said tour ! @rayj I’m kindly asking you to stop speaking on me in public!”

She continued:

“A private conversation would be both necessary and respectful! Brandy is a LEGEND! She’s one of one with an extensive catalog that I deeply respect & a voice sent from heaven ! The conversation being had without she & I is beginning to muddy the waters severely !”

The “So Gone” artist went on to ask that the process of the woman coming together for a tour remain “beautiful and positive” as they both are “consummate professionals.” Monica added that she doesn’t think either she or Brandy should open, rather they give another artist that opportunity, and the singing vets would operate as co-headliners.

Brandy, Monica

The Grammy Award winner posted the message to Ray J in response to him stating that Monica would “of course” be the tour opener if she and Brandy were to perform together during his recent interview with The Breakfast Club. He added during the discourse:

“Somebody has to come out first…Brandy ain’t having that either….but the Brandy, Monica tour – or the Monica, Brandy tour whichever one. My title is the Brandy Monica tour.”

However, it seems that Monica doesn’t agree, and also feels that Ray J’s commentary may add unnecessary fuel to an already burning fire. If you recall, the idea of Monica and Brandy possibly doing several shows together only became a realistic conversation following their Verzuz battle in 2020.

The musicians had a long-standing beef before that, which began following their chart-topping collab “The Boy Is Mine,” released in 1998. Rumors previously swirled that Monica once slapped Brandy ahead of a live performance they did of the song back in the day, and it seems the relationship only soured from there.

Ahead of their Verzuz battle, however, Brandy explained that they were pitted against each other and both admitted to giving in to the drama.  Monica and Brandy have since offered their apologies to each other, and have seemingly been on good terms.

It does not appear that Brandy has spoken publicly about Ray J’s comments or the possible tour at this time.
