Fredro Starr Says ‘Moesha’ Co-Stars Brandy & Countess Vaughn Had ‘Friction’ While On Set, Seemingly Prompting Spin-Off Series ‘The Parkers’
Rapper/actor Fredro Starr has officially confirmed the rumors surrounding friction between actresses Brandy and Countess Vaughn.
During a recent interview with The Art Of Dialogue, “Moesha” actor Fredro Starr spoke on the (rumored) tension between his fellow co-stars Brandy and Countess Vaughn while on set of the 90s hit sitcom. In case you didn’t know, Brandy played the lead role as Moesha with Countess Vaughn portraying her on-screen friend.

In the interview, Fredro Starr — who played Moesha’s boyfriend — revealed that the two actresses had a few disagreements and argued while they worked together. The Onyx member recalled the animosity between then-teens Brandy and Countess and said,
“There was definitely friction, definitely. There were times on the set where they had an argument once or twice. And they got over it. People argue.”

Fredro continued,
“But I’m gonna keep it real, Countess Vaughn was funny. She was hilarious, and they needed her on the show, so she had a right to beef. She had a right to speak her mind.”
He furthered,
“Whatever happened, I’m sure that [Countess Vaughn] was frustrated enough to where it exploded.”

Despite eventually being let go from “Moesha” before the show wrapped, Fredro mentioned in the interview that Countess was offered a spin-off series of her own due to her static with Brandy.
“Countess was so dope and so much of a great actress and so funny they gave her her own show. They said, ‘you know what, they not getting along, just give her her own show.’”
As you may already know, Countess landed a lead role in the “Moesha” spin-off “The Parkers,” which also stars stand-up comedian Mo’Nique. The sitcom aired in 1999 and ran for five seasons, totaling 110 episodes.
