‘Abbott Elementary’ Star Tyler James Williams Not Rooting For Janine & Gregory To End Up Together
Are you hoping for fictional characters Janine and Gregory to cross over into something more romantic?
Well, the actor that plays Gregory Eddie, Tyler James Williams, is praying against those wishes. During a recent appearance on Jennifer Hudson’s talk series, 31-year-old Tyler James Williams explained why he’s probably one of the few people rooting against a romantic storyline for the “Abbott Elementary” teachers. He shared,
“I don’t necessarily want to see them together. It’s partially an actor’s choice but also, I read a lot of scripts all the time, I watch a lot of TV, a lot of films, [and] I don’t think that we see displays of platonic love between two people often.”
Tyler James Williams continued,
“I think it’s really easy to go right to ‘they have feelings for each other therefore they should be together,’ right? [But] I like this dynamic of them exploring withholding that and just actively loving each other where they are. That, I like to see more.”
If you’ve been keeping up with Quinta Brunson’s mockumentary sitcom, then you saw tensions build between educators Gregory and Janine Teagues throughout seasons one and two. The second season even concluded with the pair sharing an unexpected kiss during a school field trip to the Franklin Institute. However, when the third season premiered, viewers watched as Quinta Brunson’s character Janine learned Gregory just wanted to be friends.
Tyler James Williams elaborated more during his recent interview,
“I think seeing a healthy friendship that is deeply caring about one another in a work atmosphere needs to be shown more than the relationship.”
