UPDATE: O.J. Simpson’s Cause Of Death Was Prostate Cancer, His Attorney Confirms

Update #2 (April 26, 2024): O.J. Simpson’s official cause of death has been confirmed. The late NFL star and actor died of prostate cancer, his attorney confirmed on Friday (April 26).

Update (April 12, 2024): O.J. Simpson reportedly wanted his secrets to die with him.

The former NFL star reportedly had 30-50 family members, including his four children, sign NDAs before his death, according to Radar Online.

Insiders told the outlet that all of his loved ones who came to visit him before he died were told to sign the NDA, and were not allowed to bring their cell phones inside.

Original Story (April 11, 2024): Prayers up for the family of former football star O.J. Simpson.

The 76-year-old reportedly passed away yesterday (Wednesday, April 10th), after nearly a year-long battle with cancer.

O.J. Simpson’s family made the announcement via his official X page (formerly known as Twitter) earlier today (April 11th), writing:

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. -The Simpson Family”

As we reported in February, rumors that O. J. Simpson was diagnosed with prostate cancer began to circulate after sources claimed he was in hospice. While the sports personality did reveal in May of last year that he was starting chemotherapy, he never confirmed what variation of the cancer he was facing. Moreover, when the hospice reports came out, Simpson took to his X account shortly after with a video, ensuring the public that the reports were not true.

However, reports have since confirmed that it does appear Simpson lost his battle with prostate cancer, resulting in his passing. The famed athlete was a San Fransisco native who broke out as a football star during his early college days, leading him to play 11 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Buffalo Bills. Nicknamed “The Juice,” Simpson broke several records across his career and is widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs of all time.

After the end of his professional career as an athlete, Simpson furthered his legacy and fortune by becoming a sports personality, actor, and corporate spokesperson. However, many of his achievements lie in the shadows of his infamous murder trial where he stood accused of killing his wife Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994.

If you recall, Simpson was famously acquitted of double homicide at the end of the internationally watched trial, in a ruling that many still consider to be controversial. Three years after the trial, however, he was found guilty of liable in a civil suit from the victim’s families and was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages, much of which he reportedly failed to pay prior to his passing.

Simpson ran into more legal trouble in 2007 when he was arrested in Las Vegas on armed robbery and kidnapping charges. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 33 years behind bars with a minimum of 9 years without parole. After the minimum was served, Simpson was released from prison in 2017 and was subsequently freed from parole in 2021. 

Despite his checkered past, many still acknowledge and celebrate Simpson’s contributions to the game of football. He is survived by four children, Arnelle and Jason, from his first marriage, and Sydney and Justin, from his marriage to his late wife Nicole.
