Simone Biles Says She ‘Broke Down’ Amid Backlash Against Her Husband After He Said ‘Men Are The Catch’: ‘They Hurt My Feelings’
Simone Biles was hurt for her husband after he was called out for remarks about their relationship. During a podcast interview last year, Jonathan Owens said in part that he believes “men are the catch,” sparking a ton of backlash from fans.
While on the Call Her Daddy podcast today (April 17), Simone Biles opened up about how the negative remarks impacted her.

Simone Biles
“I thought it was hilarious at first, and then they hurt my feelings. And then one night, I broke down and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? Like, you don’t know him. You don’t know who he is. And if anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody.'”
She continued,
“That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. Because for me, it’s like, ‘Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family—never.’ Because I’ve been in the limelight long enough where I can brush things off, have my little powwow about it. You’re not going to know I cried about it, but I be crying about some stuff. But I only cry about it because I can’t clap back. Just know that.”

Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens
In December, Jonathan Owens claimed on The Pivot podcast that he didn’t know Simone Biles was an Olympic gymnast when she reached out to him on the Raya dating app in 2020.
“I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity. The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind I’m like, ‘Okay, she’s gotta be good.'”
He explained,
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we were in [training] camp [in] late July, early August…So I’m not paying attention. I never would’ve had a moment where I would’ve watched [her compete].”
He continued,
“I always say men are the catch.”
He and Simone Biles ended up dating and tied the knot in April 2023.
