Simone Biles’ Husband Jonathan Owens Seemingly Reacts After Drawing Major Backlash For Claiming He’s “The Catch” In Their Relationship: ‘Unbothered’

Looks like Simone Biles and her hubby Jonathan Owens are paying no mind to internet chatter about their relationship.

The married athletes took social media recently seemingly reacting to criticism the NFL player has received over his controversial opinion that he’s the catch in their romance.

A clip of Jonathan Owens, 28, speaking on the topic recently went viral following their appearance on The Pivot podcast. After the show’s co-host Channing Crowder asked how he was able to pull the decorated gymnast, Owens explained the two connected back in 2020 on the dating app Raya and says that Simone Biles, 26, initially pursued him, though he didn’t know who she was at the time. He stated:

“I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,”

And continued:

“The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind I’m like, ‘Okay, she’s gotta be good,’

After a few skeptical gestures from the interviewer, the Green Bay player further explained why he was unaware of Biles’ notoriety in the first place. He added:

“When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we were in [training] camp [in] late July, early August…So I’m not paying attention. I never would’ve had a moment where I would’ve watched [her compete],

Following Biles messaging him, Owens said the two talked continuously before their first meeting 3 days later. According to him, the most winning gymnast of all time drove 45 minutes to see him, as Covid protocols were still in place, and says “the rest is history”. The couple went on to tie the knot back in April of this year.

While Owens’ love story seemed innocent enough, it was a subsequent comment that really put him in the hot seat with social media users. After one of the shows hosts suggested that ultimately he was “the catch”, the football player agreed and doubled down with:

“I always say men are the catch.”

This remark, along with the more skepticism around the general idea he didn’t know who Biles was and still didn’t seem to consider her the catch after discovering who she is, led many social media users to share their overall contempt with Owens and the conversation. Though some, however, did come to his defense.

Despite what the internet thinks, it seems that Owens and Biles are all good. Though he didn’t speak directly on the situation, the NFL player uploaded a photo of him and his wife following the controversy with the caption:

“Unbothered Just know we locked in over here”

With Biles doubling down on “for life” in the comments.
