Mary J. Blige’s Boot Collab w/ Giuseppe Zanotti Quickly Sells Out As Internet Users Debate Over $1,300 Price Tag
R&B songstress Mary J. Blige is the talk of the internet after dropping her now sold-out luxury boot line.
Many social media users came to the celebrity’s defense amid suggestions from critics that the almost $1,300 price tag on the boots was too much for her core audience.
Throughout her more than two decades in the music industry, Mary J. Blige’s brand has become synonymous with soulful melodies, as well as fashionable knee-high boots. Different shoe variations have been part of the Grammy winner’s signature look for years, which is why fans were happy to hear that she was finally releasing a highly requested custom boot line.
Mary J. Blige recently announced that she partnered with fashion house Giuseppe Zanotti to design the stylish footwear, which debuted with a retail price tag of $1,295. Reacting to the news, many social media users expressed their excitement for the collaboration, however, others shared disappointment that the boots were not affordable to everyone. One user wrote:
“I love her I really do, but ma’am”
While another user reposted the comment and added:
“She could have done this collab with Steve Madden instead.”
Despite the sorrow of some, supporters stood by Blige’s decision to release a more high-end product, arguing that she shouldn’t be required to sell boots at a value lower than her personal brand. Fans of the “Real Love” artist also argued that those who can’t afford the boots are probably just not a part of Blige’s target audience for this specific product.
Blige’s boots, named ‘The Mary Boot,’ went on to sell completely out within the 24 hours after it was released on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12th).
