Universal Music Group & CEO Lucian Grainge Dropped From Lil Rod’s Lawsuit Against Diddy, Attorney Admits ‘No Legal Basis’ To Claims

Universal Music Group (UMG) and its CEO, Lucian Grainge, have been officially dismissed in Lil Rod’s bombshell lawsuit against Diddy. They were accused of “aiding and abetting” amid sexual abuse and sexual assault claims against the Bad Boy Records founder.

In response to the claims, UMG’s legal team said it would seek penalties against Lil Rod’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, over the “recklessly” and “offensively false” allegations. In a sworn declaration filed in court Monday (May 13), Tyrone Blackburn said that after reading UMG’s objections, he had “concluded that there is no legal basis for the claims and allegations that were made against the UMG defendants.” He asked that they be dismissed immediately and “with prejudice.”

UMG’s lead attorney Donald Zakarin said in a statement criticizing Tyrone Blackburn,

“We have repeatedly said from our very first communication with counsel for the plaintiff on March 4, 2024, there was no basis, not legal and not factual, for the claims and accusations that were alleged. The UMG defendants should never have been named in any of these complaints and we should never have been required to make motions to dismiss the complaints in this action.”

The music world was rocked this past February when Lil Rod filed his lawsuit against Diddy, who was already facing multiple allegations of sexual abuse and sex trafficking. In the lawsuit, there are claims that Diddy sexually assaulted and harassed Lil Rod while he was working as a producer on Diddy’s 2023 The Love Album. Lil Rod’s claims also cited that UMG, Diddy and Lucian Grainge operated a sweeping conspiracy that violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, better known as RICO charges. The case included accusations of criminal racketeering and criminal sex trafficking.

Donald Zakarin believes that Blackburn “entirely invented” UMG and Grainge’s name being brought into the lawsuit, stating,

“Mr. Blackburn has misused that license to self-promote, gratuitously, falsely, and recklessly accusing the UMG defendants of criminal behavior.”

Diddy has maintained his innocence and denied all allegations against him.
